Eskimo Escapades Event Details and Frequently Asked Questions (faq)
|
What is Eskimo Escapades? |
A Winter Water Ski charity event in support of the Dream Connection and the Patricia Neal Innovative Recreation Cooperative. (PNIRC) |
|
When is the event? |
January 12, 2008 from 10:00 am until 3:00 PM |
|
Where will it be? |
Volunteer Landing, Knoxville, Tennessee next to Calhouns by the River 400 Neyland Drive, Knoxville, Tennessee 37902 |
| What if the weather is bad? |
We will ski if it rains. We will ski if it snows. We will ski if it's
Freezing Cold. We'll even ski on a heat wave! |
| Won't I freeze? | Quite possibly, yes. Some of the skiers for the 2003 event came back with icicles in their hair. If you freeze, we'll dump you into a hot tub provided by Aurora Pools & Spas to thaw you out. Some people wear wet suits or dry suits, some just wear outlandish costumes to ski. We will have a limited supply of wetsuits compliments of Ski/Scuba Center. |
|
Where will I park? |
You will be able to park at the City/County Parking Garage across from Volunteer
Landing. The L3 deck is open and free to the public on weekends.
You should enter the garage from Hill Ave. and take the elevators to L5 for the walkway.
The "maps" link on our menu displays several maps, one of which is a US Geological
Aerial Survey map that shows the Pedestrian CrossWalk Bridge where you can cross
Neyland Drive when going from your parked vehicle to the Volunteer Landing.
The Bank of America parking garage is also free as well as the Main Street
garage. |
|
Where do I change clothes? |
There are two change rooms at Volunteer Landing where you can change from your winter parka, fur-lined hat, gloves and thermal socks into a freezingly skimpy bathing suit. You can also put on a wet-suit in the change room if you wish. Don't expect it to be very warm though! |
| How old must I be? | We have had skiers from age 7 to 70. If you are a minor and have your guardian's permission, and you have registered proplerly, you can ski. |
| Who can participate? | If you can ski, wake board, belly board, bare foot, knee board, slalom, etc., and you register for the event - providing at least $50.00 in donations, you can participate. Skiers will ski one lap (1/2 mile) starting and ending at Volunteer Landing. Your tow will be provided by a brand new Malibu, Correct Craft or Master Craft tow boat driven by club members. |
| Are there prizes? | You bet there are! Some really great ones. |
|
How do I Register |
Print and fill out an Eskimo Escapades Event Brochure by
clicking on the Registration Link in the menu on the left side of this page.) You must also be a member of USA Water Ski. If you are not, print and fill out a USA Water Ski registration form. (Click on Registration in the menu.) There is no advance registration but please fill out the forms before the event in order to speed things up. Collect all pledges in advance and submit them with your registration the day of the event. |
| Can I bring my own ski boat? |
No. New ski boats are provided by our local sponsors. For safety and insurance reasons we
provide the boat crew members who have special training. |
| I hear there is a hot tub? |
Yes. You can warm up in a hot tub from Aurora Pools and Spa. But, be careful.
After freezing in that cold water and ripping air, getting into the hot tub stings! |
| Will you have wetsuits? |
Yes. Ski/Scuba Inc. has provided us with a limited supply of wetsuits. Just remember to
turn it back in at the end of your run! |
| Do I have to be a USA Water-ski member? |
Yes. In order to participate, you must be, at least, a guest member of USA WaterSki.
The $10 fee for a guest membership is taken out of your donations if you are
not already a USA WaterSki member.
Eskimo Escapades is covered by insurance because it is a sanctioned USA WaterSki Fun
Tournament. |
| Can I bring my own skis, wakeboard, or tube? |
Yes. But, we provide the boats! If you need skis, we will have a few
available. |
| Are donations tax deductible? |
Yes. Eskimo Escapades Foundation, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) corporation with
tax-exempt status from the IRS. Note that only the people who
donate the money can claim a deduction - not the skier
who collects the money. If a skier contributes money out of their own
pocket, they can claim that amount for a tax deduction. Eskimo Escapades
does not send out tax deduction letters to donors. Donors can use a canceled
check to the Eskimo Escapades Foundation as verification of their donation. |
| Can I order a T-shirt or Sweatshirt? |
Yes, as long as supplies last. We will probably run out of the most
popular sizes if the weather is good. Your best bet is to come to the
event to buy one. If you order them by email you
will have to pay around $4.00 extra for postage. Sweatshirts are $25.00,
Long Sleeve T-shirts are $15.00 and Short Sleeve T-shirts are $10.00.
Send an email message to us to order a shirt. |

| Dream Connection |
The Dream Connection is a not-for-profit organization, which benefits regional children
who hold a dream and are diagnosed with a life-threatening illness. Dreams range from a
new computer, a trip to Disney World, or an afternoon spent with a child's favorite star.
The Dream Connection selects its children based upon a number of criteria. Each dream
fulfilled is unique and powerful as it gives a child the resources and abilities to have
his or her dream brought to life, no matter how simple or complex the dream may be.
These dreams are not always cost friendly and every donation you make will go toward
helping one more child realize his or her dream within their lifetime. The Dream Connection Web Site |

Patricia Neal IRC |
The Patricia Neal Rehabilitation Center is the largest rehabilitation facility in the state
and surrounding areas and provides treatment to individuals who have suffered injuries
resulting in physical or mental disabilities. The Patricia Neal Rehabilitation Center
serves its patients by empowering them through physical rehabilitation, recreational rehabilitation,
and relearning of day-to-day activities to cope with their recent disabilities. Patients benefit
from rigorous daily therapies with trained professionals specializing in rehabilitative fields.
Once they regain the ability to function in their outside lives, they have the opportunity to
participate in an array of community activities designed for continued learning and recreation.
These activities are sponsored by the Patricia Neal Innovative Recreation Cooperative
(IRC) and
are geared towards development and fun. Activities such as SCUBA, snow skiing, water
skiing, wake boarding, parasailing, self-defense, paddling, and golf are all part
of the Patricia Neal IRC repertoire. These activities require specialized equipment for the
participants and are made possible by your donations and volunteer efforts. Your donation will
go directly to the Patricia Neal IRC to help offset the tremendous cost of operating this
beneficial service. The Patricia Neal IRC Web Site |
